The first time my mum surfed through my past sewing projects at Flickr she spotted a big omission. So big it was that even my dad noticed a certain project was missing.
I bought my sewing machine with my mum’s help during one of her visits. In order to break the new toy in, and to watch the pro at work, I had the knitting roll lined up as a first endeavour.
My mum and I spent many hours sitting at the dining room table planning, measuring, cutting and sewing. The reason why it took hours was because we also chatted a lot, made a few jokes that caused unstoppable fits of laughter (remember “the snake”, mum?) and had lovely tea breaks.
While us girls were busy sewing, the boys – my dad and the husband – spent time in the studio playing with their computers and ocassionally joined us for tea and to check on our progress.
When I put up all my sewing in Flickr I forgot to include the knitting roll. Oops!
Every now and then I get a reminder that I should put it up but I never seem to get round to it. Well, today is the day. The knitting roll is up with all my other sewing projects for all of you to admire.
I must say it’s quite handy to keep your needles in order. Then of course, if you’re like me, you can also find lots of pairs kept in project bags and knitting baskets. I should round them all up and make an inventory of what sizes I have and what I need.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of my mum’s knitting roll, so I guess I still owe you a knitting roll. But trust me, it was really pretty.

this project is on my brain, too. I need one of these so badly. I have needles in a million different places around the house and then when I start a new project, I’m never completely sure that I have the size I need. It’s so bad that occasionally one of my children will show up walking through the house with a needle they found somewhere. Yes, that is safe!! And a needle census sounds like a very good idea, too!

What a pretty knitting roll. You just reminded me that I was supposed to make one for my good friend. I better go put it on my “to do” list.

I love your project. It is one I keep saying that I want to make too!
