  1. Magazine idea

    Magazines

It’s no secret that I love craft magazines. So many pretty things to look at, so much inspiration, what’s not to like?

My family is very crafty and my parents were very much into foreign design, so even before the days of the internet (yes, I’m that old) piles of foreign craft and design magazines magically grew in our house.

I distinctly remember spending hours and hours going through the kid crafts’ magazines choosing what to make and even drawing and cutting paper people to play in the photographs of doll houses. Was I weird for playing with a photograph house? Maybe. Was it fun? You have no idea.

When I discovered craft blogs a few years ago I was in craft heaven. Every new blog I surfed to was like a new magazine but with a twist and a personality. I was getting a glimpse of crafts from around the world. Beautiful!

It’s sometimes awkward to get my hands on foreign magazines these days and I always wonder what other treasures are out there waiting to be discovered.

So I was wondering, would anyone out there be interested in an international magazine swap?

Nothing too complicated, just buy a magazine, put it in the post and get another one (preferably foreign to you) in return.

If you think you’d like to take part, leave me a comment below. If there’s enough interest I’ll organise and post details later.

    Thanks!

This is a wonderful idea! I’d love to participate. I’m in New York, USA.

Also, thank you for the comment on my blog about the labels. It’s strange that the email you sent bounced back, because I actually did receive it. Thanks for taking the time to find my blog and comment. When you decide what to do about the labels, I’d love to see what you went with. Have a great weekend!

You may have a lot of US participants! I’m from Washington, DC, although I think I could get my hands on some Spanish (Latin American) magazines to trade, too. I seem to remember my grandmother buying a magazine called IDEAS many years ago, a companion to Buenhogar maybe?

Oh my gosh – I LOVE craft magazines – I am in Melbourne, Australia (American, just moved here 6 months ago) and I would love to swap! My friend Lisa has just turned me on to craft blogs so I am a newbie here and absolutely love your site – I totally agree that perusing them is like looking at a different magical magazine. What a great idea!

I would love to participate if you have need of any other US participants. I live in Utah and I think it must be the craft capital of the US. There is a great selection of craft magazines here, especially scrapbooking which is huge. However, I’m originally from Ireland and I love getting the non-American crafty perspective.

I would love to participate in a swap! I am from the USA so I can’t get anything too exotic–although maybe there are people out there from other countries who would love to get some of our mags. I will be going to Peru the month of July, so I could probably pick up some Spanish language mags if someone wants some, though in all fairness I have to say the one’s I’ve seen don’t appear that interesting and because their seasons are switched from the northern hemisphere, they usually appear about 6 months behind. Anyway–I’d love to be in a swap if it goes and you don’t have too much of a glut of US participants. What a great idea!

      Hi,
This sounds like a great swap. I’m very interested in this as crafting (especially papercrafts) has taken over my life! I live in the UK and would love to exchange magazines, ideas and perhaps crafting products with fellow crafters in America and from around the world.
Am I too late for this swap?

Hi, sounds great love foreign magazines, actually finally subscribed to my favorite British magazine, although costs a fortune for a whole year. I am near Boston, MA, maybe we can do ongoing trades if there are too many to do a one-time swap. I would be happy to send over seas, and thrilled to receive a mag in exchange. what an awesome idea!
